Noelle K. Tan earned her BFA from New York University and her MFA from California Institute of the Arts. Her work is widely collected and in permanent collections such as the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Albright-Knox Gallery, the Center for Photography at Woodstock, and theCorcoran Museum. She received the prestigious Creative Capital grant in 2005. Tan is represented by Civilian Art Projects.

ABOUT THE PIECE:

I took this photograph in White Sands National Monument, New Mexico. Even when I'm working on specific projects, there are certain things or events that I always want to document. For instance - people in the act of photographing. I don't exactly know why…but I think it has something to do with looking at the posturing involved in photographing; with the oddness of photographing someone who is photographing; and with the curiosity of what the image they made looks like.
