On View: June 7 - July 20, 2013
Opening Reception: Friday, June 7, 7-9pm

In his first exhibition with Civilian Art Projects, Washington, DC based artist Bill Rock presents “Guests,” an exhibition of new paintings and drawings on paper. A guest is a visitor who has come from afar and perhaps takes lodging for a night or longer in a location not his home, a role Rock extends to the human race here on earth. His drawings and paintings include self-portraits, animals, characters from sketches, and cocktails. The characters in Rock’s drawings are guests of one type or another, and continue a storyline from past work that will extend into the future.

Rock received his BA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in Radio, Television, Film and his MFA in Visual Arts from the Vermont College in Montpelier, VT. He has led courses on color theory, painting, and drawing at Georgetown University and Smithsonian Institution, among others. He has had solo exhibitions at Botham Vineyards in Wisconsin; Union Theological Center Gallery, Diadian, and District Fine Arts in Washington DC; David Leonardis, 1800 West, Lannon + Cole Galleries and the Temporary Museum of Art in Chicago, IL; the Emerging Collector Gallery, New York, NY; and the C.R.I.M.E. Gallery in Paris, France. Selected group exhibitions include Manifest Hope DC Inauguration Exhibition, Washington DC, 2009; Inaugural Inspiration Exhibit, Zenith Gallery, Washington, DC, 2009; Resurrection - ACCU Conference Exhibit, Washington D.C. 2004; The Coaster Project - Destination: The World 2002, Transcultural Exchange 2003; the London Biennial - London, England, 2000, Transcultural Exchange; and, 175th Anniversary – Invitational, George Washington University Washington, DC 1995.
